The Lafayette Hotel
Apartment Community
The LaFayette, in downtown Rockford, Illinois, was built in 1927 as a premier luxury hotel. This historic hotel initially served as a resting place for actors when it opened nearly a century ago. In 2024 Wisconsin-based developer Gorman & Co. commenced renovation of this grand old building, converting it into a 51-unit affordable apartment complex. MRWS supplied ninety-nine Quaker H650 aluminum, single-hung windows with surround “panning” profiles, designed to match the historic sightlines and intricate brickmould trim of the original wood windows - in accordance with the specific guidelines of the Historic Tax Credit approval process. In addition, MRWS performed the detailed RESTORATION of fifty-six of the original windows (and six doors), as mandated by the HTC governance. As part of the historic restoration, MRWS replaced much of the vintage "Vitrilite" glass at the exterior facade with a modern equivelnt product called "Vitribrite Glass" , to preserve the historic appearance at the building's eleborate entrances
